Windhoek Country Club Bowls hosted a very successful Namibian Closed Singles Championships over the weekend. Altogether some 21 men and 18 women had entered the competition with their sights set on representing Namibia at next years Champion of Champions in Paphos, Cyprus.

Two players from WCC, Graham Snyman and Sandy Joubert, won their sections and advanced to the semi-finals. The other semi-finalists were Jean Viljoen (Rossmund) and Will Esterhuizen Jnr (Transnamib).

Will beat Sandy in straight sets, while Jean beat Graham in the tie-break.

Will Esterhuizen continued his impressive show of form in the final and beat Jean Viljoen (2-0).

In the ladies competition Charlotte Morland (WCC), Diana Viljoen (Rossmund), Helen Riekert (Rossmund) and Leslie Vermuelen (Eros) won their sections.

Diana beat Charlotte in straight sets, while Leslie pulled off an unreal shot to trail the jack and beat Helen in the tie-break.

The final between Diana and Leslie was a close affair, with Diana taking the first set and Leslie the second. In the second end of the tie-break Leslie again trailed the jack to go up on Diana, then in the final end she drew a pearler with her first bowl which Diana could not beat.

WCC Bowls congratulats the new Namibian Singles Champions, Will Esterhuizen Jnr and Leslie Vermuelen. We wish them every success at next years Champion of Champions.
